If you should find yourself with free time during your stay with us, there are plenty of things to see and do in and around Paisley, Scotland. As one of Scotland’s largest towns, in the past it was known as the textile capital of Scotland. Just 10 minutes from Glasgow, the town has several listed buildings including Paisley Abbey and Scotland’s oldest observatory.
Paisley Abbey dates to the 12th century and the abbey is now a parish church of the Church of Scotland. A beautiful building visitors can enjoy its lovely interior or a stop at the café onsite.
Sma’Shot Cottage is an 18th century weavers cottage and gives a lovely insight into Paisley’s history. It is only open from April to September and at limited times.
Paisley Abbey was previously a Cluniac Priory and is now a parish church. The Priory attained Abbey status in 1219 and has been restored throughout the years with some of its 14th century input still visible. Paisley Abbey is open all year and you can visit it Monday to Saturday between 10am and 3.30pm.
Shopping is plentiful in and around Paisley with lots of nice independent shops in the town itself. If you feel like visiting a shopping centre nearby Braehead is a large retail centre open 7 days a week with just under 2,000 parking spaces.
